CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH: KEY (KET)
KET Key English Test is a pre-intermediate level examination and corresponds to level 2 of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The exam is made up of three papers: Reading and Writing, Speaking and Listening. There are three passing grades: ‘Pass with Distinction’, ‘Pass with Merit’, ‘Pass’ and one failing grade: ‘Level A1’. Students can take either a computer-based or a paper-based exam. It’s typically taken by students aged between 11 and 14 and can be achieved after around 180 – 200 hours of study. The course provides efficient exam preparation in 50-60 core hours.
– A CD-ROM accompanying the Student’s Book offers additional practice in grammar, vocabulary and exam practice, including Listening.
– Two teen-inspired topics in each unit ensure the entire exam syllabus is covered, and can also act as a basis for CLIL-based extension activities and projects.
– Each Student’s Book unit contains one exam style Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking task.
– A2-level vocabulary is targeted, drawing on insights from English Profile, and brought together in a Wordlist based on key vocabulary from the units.

KET Key English Test
Difficulty level: A2 elementary
The Key English Test is the easiest of the Cambridge exams.
Who is it for?
Do the KET Key English Test if you want to know your studies have started well and you have a basic knowledge of reading, writing, speaking and listening.
What is the KET test like?
The test has three sections:
- Reading & Writing – 60 minutes, 30 reading questions and two writing parts.
- Listening – 25 minutes
- Speaking – 8-10 minutes
There are two versions of the KET test:
- KET
- KET for Schools
Both versions have the same type of questions. The KET for schools test has content of interest to school-age learners.
Score
The Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking sections each count for 25% of the marks.
You will receive a Statement of Results. If your performance ranges between CEFR Levels B1 and A1, you will also receive a certificate.
Pass with distinction (B1), Pass with Merit (A2), Pass (A2)
If you do not pass, but still do reasonably well you are issued an A1 certificate
When can I take the test?
Arrange with your closest test centre. You can do the test in two formats. Paper-based or Computer-based. The KET can be taken approximately once a month.
How much does it cost to take KET?
Fees are set by test centres. Expect to pay around €120 euros.
